Dear Friend,

Our 50th season is underway! The opening night was full of the energy that, for us, is an essential part of the theatre experience. We were determined to survive to celebrate this milestone, and we did, thanks to your help and support! Clearly you agree with us that live theatre enhances our lives. It gives us all an opportunity to share emotions with our fellow humans. We can laugh together, we can feel sorrow together. And we can enjoy a social event with our friends and family.

We are launching our 4th Annual Fundraising Appeal. Our goal this year is $30,000. Costs of everything, including our rent (our largest), are increasing regularly as our income has decreased. Your support is crucial if we are to continue to produce quality theatre at a modest cost to the community. As we are a charity, we are able to give receipts, for tax purposes, for donations of $25.00 or more.

You can send donations by credit card at https://villageplayers.net/donate/, and by cheque using this downloadable donor form and sending it to the address on the form. If you prefer e-transfer, simply email us and we can make arrangements. Finally, Canada Helps allows for anonymous donations. We check our voicemail (416-767-7702) and email villageplayersaudiences@gmail.com on a regular basis, if you should have any questions.

Your financial and psychological support have been key factors in our survival these last 3 plus years. But we are very aware that variations of the COVID virus are still with us, and that we are not completely free of the constraints that it has brought to our lives. At the theatre we have always concentrated on the safety of both our patrons and our cast and crew. As you know this has included installing UV air filtration and restricting the size of the house. We decided to continue to offer some performances where we sell only 50% of our seats and performances when we require masks. All this has had a significant impact on our outgoings and our income. You may not be aware that our only paid employee is our cleaner. The approximately 40 people who are involved in bringing each show to life work for love, not money. And how hard they work!

With many people still hesitant to attend the theatre, or any event with large numbers of people, it will probably be some time before we return to the size of houses which will enable us to build up our ‘war chest’ for the future. The total number of our subscribers is about half what it was pre-COVID. Some commentators think it will take years for arts organizations to return to previous attendance levels.

It is always wonderful to connect with you at our productions. We hope that they have made you laugh, made you think and given you an opportunity to marvel at the creativity that exists in your community. Three and four-show subscriptions for our 2023/2024 season are still available. Why not buy a gift certificate for family or friends at the Holiday season. One less present to buy!

Once again, thank you for your past support, for being our friends and for making us feel wanted. We hope you realise how important you are.

We are a Registered Charity, #05469782213. Tax receipts are provided for donations greater than $25.00.
