Bloor West Village Players is looking for Directors to direct Zoom productions to run alongside our 2022-2023 season.
Over the course of this season, the company will present a series of 5-8 plays on Zoom, focusing on new or lesser-known plays by local Ontario playwrights. Each will be directed over 5-6 rehearsals before being presented over Zoom to a Village Players’ online audience. This might be a Pay What You Choose audience, advertised online and in social media, or a ‘Members only’ audience, depending on the material and the experience of the Director.
The chosen Director will select cast after roles have been advertised. There will be minimal but appropriate props, costumes, backdrops and sound. The productions will only be presented “live” and not recorded for broadcast.
We are currently looking for Directors interested in participating in this series. See below for how to let us know.
We will share details of the plays in the series as they are selected with all Directors who respond. The first two plays selected are:
A Wake: We Are Dancing by Mary Barnes Amoroso
A daughter tries to heal her family by bringing together estranged parties to a night of truth telling. Will her efforts produce the results she desires?
We expect this will be rehearsed in October and presented October 21/22/23, 2022.
Airport Tales by Carol Libman
A light-hearted, entertaining, funny and above all human onstage “Road Movie” … at 30,000 feet. The indomitable Evalina, journeying back to the old homestead to celebrate her 90th birthday, battles – and conquers – security checks, seat-mate problems, lost luggage and a somewhat fraught family reunion.
We expect this will be rehearsed in November and presented December 9/10/11.
If you are interested in directing either of these plays, please let us know when you respond with your bio and we will send you the script(s). After script review, please e-mail VillagePlayersOnline@gmail.com by August 17, 2022 to let us know if you are still interested and give us your availability for a Zoom interview on the evenings of Monday, August 29, Wednesday, August 31 or Wednesday, September 5. We look forward to hearing your view of your chosen play(s) and its/their characters, what you see as challenges in presenting it/them on Zoom, and your suggested approach to directing it/them.
To be clear, we’d like to hear from you even if you’re not interested in or available for the first two plays, but might be interested later in the season. Please reply to VillagePlayersOnline@gmail.com and include a bio of your relevant experience, a rough indication of availability, and any other information you think would help us.
Bloor West Village Players is a community theatre company and this is a volunteer position, with no honorarium
